Central Michigan University (CMU) is a public research institution founded in 1892 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. CMU is not only one of the largest universities in Michigan, but is also one of the top 100 largest public universities in the nation. Its athletics teams, known as the Central Michigan Chippewas, mainly compete in the Mid-American Conference under NCAA Division I. Similar to many other collegiate insitutions across the U.S., the university was given consent of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe for use of the name.
