Text on Panorama
This panorama of Sanford Stadium was photographed by James Blakeway during a Georgia Bulldogs football game. Named for the late Dr. Steadman V. Sanford, a former University president, the stadium was originally built in 1929 for $360,000. Today, after several renovations, it ranks as one of the largest college stadiums in America with a capacity of 92,746. The ambiance of the stadium is intensified on fall Saturdays, nationally ranking among the top college stadiums in attendance. The Bulldogs football program began in 1892 and has historically enjoyed tremendous success as part of the SEC. Founded in 1785 in Athens, GA, the University enrolls over 34,000 students.
