Glacier National Park Scenic Panorama - Avalanche Lake

SKU: GNP1
Glacier National Park Avalanche Lake
This panoramic photo captures the serene Avalanche Lake of Glacier National Park. Located at the base of the 8,684-foot Bearhat Mountain, its crystal clear waters are fed by Sperry Glacier. Looking closely, several long waterfalls can be seen plunging hundreds of feet downward towards the lake, most of which originate from the glacier. The area was given its name from Dr. Sperry who, upon exploring the area, heard multiple avalanches and exclaimed, "Avalanche Basin would be a most appropriate name for the place". A testament to its name, hikers will often find hundreds of trees downed by avalanches that have recently roared down the mountain.

Glacier National Park - Swiftcurrent Lake
This panorama of Swiftcurrent Lake highlights Many Glacier, one of the most scenic regions within Glacier National Park. The exquisite towering peaks reflected in the lake include Grinnell Point at center and Mount Wilbur in the vast background to the right. With a footprint of over 100 acres and a two-mile shoreline, Swiftcurrent Lake is home to the Many Glacier Hotel seen on the left. Known for the spectacular views and early 1900s historic atmosphere, the hotel is one of the largest in Glacier National Park and also serves park visitors as a point of departure to a few of Glacier's most popular hiking trails.

Glacier National Park - St. Mary Lake
Located near the eastern gateway of Glacier National Park, the serene waters of St. Mary Lake reflect the majestic mountain peaks and lush pine forests that surround it. It is here, where meadows, mountains, forest and lake converge, that some of the best views of flora and fauna can be discovered. Native wildlife such as elk, moose, mountain goats and both black and grizzly bears roam the rugged terrain. In warmer seasons, the hillsides are graced with picturesque wildflowers, while in the fall, they burst with the orange and yellows of the changing aspen leaves. Set high in the mountains, the ten-mile-long lake also hosts one of Glacier National Park's most iconic draws, Wild Goose Island.
