University of St. Thomas vs. Saint John's University - Target Field
The historic Tommie-Johnnie rivalry was elevated to a whole new level as the University of St. Thomas hosted Saint John's University at the first-ever football game at Target Field. This long-standing rivalry began in 1901 and this game marks the 87th competition between these two teams. With both teams ranked in the top ten nationally, a history of large crowds and a top-notch venue in Target Field, it was not surprising that a new NCAA Division III attendance record was set at 37,355. The game outdrew the previous record of 17,535 by 19,820. As the winner, the University of St. Thomas took home the Holy Grail traveling trophy.
