Text on Panorama
This panorama captures the opening faceoff of the historic game between the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens held on October 9, 2011, at MTS Centre. The inaugural game marked the regular season debut of the Winnipeg Jets and their return to the NHL® after a 15-year hiatus. On May 31, 2011, it was announced that True North Sports & Entertainment Limited would relocate an NHL franchise to Winnipeg for the 2011-12 season. Within minutes of making season tickets available to the public, the team reached its 13,000 seat target. At the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, True North Chairman, Mark Chipman, announced the team name would be called the Winnipeg Jets. The new logos pay homage to the Royal Canadian Air Force.
