This aerial panorama of Hoover Dam, with the Colorado River in the foreground, was taken by James Blakeway. Considered one of America's Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders, the dam project was authorized by Congress in 1928 to control floods, provide irrigation water and produce hydroelectric power. Construction on the dam began in 1931 and was completed in 1936, more than two years ahead of schedule. The dam was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin Roosevelt, but was controversially named in honor of President Herbert Hoover. Hoover Dam is a National Historic Landmark and attracts nearly a million people who tour the dam each year.

Hoover Dam, once known as Boulder Dam, is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River, on the border between the US states of Arizona and Nevada. It was constructed between 1931 and 1936 during the Great Depression, and was dedicated on September 30, 1935, by President Franklin Roosevelt. Its construction was the result of a massive effort involving 21,000 workers, 45,000,000 pounds of reinforcing steel and 4,360,000 cubic yards of concrete. The dam's generators provide power for public and private utilities in Nevada, Arizona, and California.

Lake Tahoe is located along the border of California and Nevada in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This freshwater lake is known for incredible water clarity and the beauty of the surrounding mountains on all sides. The area is home to many ski resorts. You can water ski and snow ski on the same day. Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the United States and the twelfth deepest in the world with a maximum depth of 1,645 feet. The lake has 72 majestic miles of shoreline.

This panoramic photograph of London, England was taken by James Blakeway. Featured on the River Thames are London Bridge on the far left and Tower Bridge on the right. Also featured is the H.M.S. Belfast, a WWII navel ship that has been permanently docked on the Thames since 1978 as an Imperial War Museum. The buildings in the distance are located in an area known as Canary Wharf, home of London's tallest building, One Canada Square, with its pyramid-shaped roof. On the left with its green glowing top is Tower 42, a cantilevered building with three asymmetrical sections hanging from the building's central core. The bullet-shaped building to its right is the 30 St Mary Axe.

This panoramic photograph of the Tower Bridge was taken by James Blakeway. It features one of London's best known landmarks, the Tower Bridge, named after its own two impressive towers. Completed in 1894 and considered a masterpiece of its time, the middle of the bridge can be raised to permit large vessels to pass the Tower Bridge. It used to be raised about 50 times a day, but now is only raised 4 to 5 times per week. The bridge is 197 feet long and its towers rise to a height of 141 feet. To allow passage up the Thames of the large mastedships of the day, the bridge had to offer 140 feet of clearance.

This panoramic photograph of Madrid's famous Plaza Monumental de las Ventas was taken by James Blakeway. It features Spain's premier bullring. With a capacity of 22,000 seats, it is the largest bullring in Spain and attracts the top bullfighters, who appear before a demanding and knowledgeable crowd. Las Ventas was built in the Mudejar style, characteristic of many bullrings, with brick walls and ceramic decoration. Between 70 and 72 bullfights are held every year beginning in April. Since medieval times, the most popular entertainment in Madrid has been bullfighting.

The whole area has fanciful architecture from the 1920's and 1930's and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These buildings are further accented with an abundance of neon light, porthole windows and colorful etched glass. The area is located on a long narrow island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean near Miami Florida. It is a world famous, year-around resort, with beautiful hotels, ornate nightclubs, and extensive sand beaches.

Bourbon Street, located in the famous French Quarter, is quaint and tranquil by day and a music-filled center of excitement and activity by night. People stroll the brightly lit streets, some of which are closed to automobile traffic in the evening, and take rides in horse-drawn buggies. The streets are lined with restaurants offering exquisite fare, antique shops, souvenirs stores and the best jazz in the world. There are 100 square blocks in the French Quarter. New Orleans is one of few cities that is lively 24 hours a day.

The southern third of New York's 843-acre Central Park is visible in this panorama. Central Park, created in 1853 and opened to the public in 1859, stemmed from the admiration of public grounds in London and Paris. Also visible, in the center of this panorama, is New York's tallest building, the 103-story Empire State Building. Manhattan is bordered by the Hudson River on the right and the East River on the left. Visible in the distance, just right of the Empire State Building, is One World Trade Center and, further to its right, is the Statue of Liberty.

This panorama of Niagara Falls was taken by James Blakeway. The waterfalls are located on the Niagara River in western New York State and southeastern Ontario. Niagara Falls consists of three waterfalls: the American Falls to the left of center, Bridal Veil Falls just right of the American Falls and the Horseshoe Falls on the right of the panorama, which is on the Canadian side of the border. The amount of water falling over the crest line of the Falls is more than 6 million cubic feet every minute. The Falls are capable of producing over 4 million kilowatts of electricity, which is shared by the United States and Canada.
