This historic lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine is owned and completely automated by the U.S. Coast Guard. The keepers' house at Fort Williams Park has been converted to a maritime museum. Construction of the buildings was first authorized by John Hancock in 1784, and overseen by first U.S. President, George Washington. Built of rubblestone, it was one of the first construction efforts undertaken by the federal government.
