Split Rock Lighthouse wall decor features a site on the North Shore of Lake Superior. This is one of the most famous figures of the Great Lakes, in place since 1910. However, the lighthouse has not been in operation since 1969. That being said, it is lit every year on November 10 in remembrance of the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank in 1975. Listed as a National Historic Landmark, the buildings at Split Rock Lighthouse were originally constructed in response to the loss of 29 ships in Lake Superior during the Mataafa Storm of 1905.
