SKU: BAR1
This panoramic photograph of Barcelona was taken by James Blakeway. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is Spain's second largest city and capital of the Catalonia autonomous region of Spain. The hill at the far right is Montjuic, where most of the Olympic events of the 1992 games were held. At the base of the hill is the brown Palau Nacional with the Montjuic Castle on top of the hill. The Olympic stadium is directly behind Palau Nacional. Left of center in the distance is the famous Temple de la Sagrada Familia, Antonio Gaudi's most ambitious and grandest architectural masterpiece and a symbol of the city itself.

Barcelona, Spain Skyline Pictures

Barcelona was founded as a Roman city in the 3rd century BC, and has grown to become the second-largest city in Spain and sixth-most populated urban region in Europe. Despite it being the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean, Barcelona still holds beautiful Spanish architecture within the city's picturesque location between the Besòs and Llobregat Rivers.

The hill known as Montjuic is a popular tourist destination and prominent feature in many Barcelona skyline pictures, with its flat top overlooking the harbor. This hill was the site of many events during the 1992 Olympic games, and location of many fortresses over the centuries. Other prominent landmarks include Montjuic Castle and the famous Temple de la Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site consecrated in 2010 as a minor basilica. Although the basilica is incomplete, its architecture is an incomparable combination of Art Nouveau and Gothic styles. Another impossible to miss landmark in the Barcelona skyline is the Palau Nacional, a palace built in the 1920s for the 1929 International Exhibition. Now home to the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Palau Nacional has great cultural significance and houses over 5,000 Spanish works of art.

Taking home a Barcelona skyline panorama is one way to enjoy the treasures of of this historic city's world-famous architecture. There is something enjoyable to be found for any lover of Spain's scenery, whether from the many parks, distinctive Spanish architecture or its views of the dazzling Mediterranean sea.
