This panoramic photograph of Barcelona was taken by James Blakeway. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona is Spain's second largest city and capital of the Catalonia autonomous region of Spain. The hill at the far right is Montjuic, where most of the Olympic events of the 1992 games were held. At the base of the hill is the brown Palau Nacional with the Montjuic Castle on top of the hill. The Olympic stadium is directly behind Palau Nacional. Left of center in the distance is the famous Temple de la Sagrada Familia, Antonio Gaudi's most ambitious and grandest architectural masterpiece and a symbol of the city itself.

Founded as a Roman city in the 3rd century B.C., Barcelona has grown to become the second largest city in Spain and 6th most populated urban region in Europe. Despite it being the largest metropolis located on the Mediterranean, Barcelona skyline pictures show beautiful Spanish architecture in the city's picturesque location between the Besòs and Llobregat rivers.

The hill known as Montjuic can be seen as prominent feature in many Barcelona skyline pictures. With a flat top overlooking the harbor, Montjuic is a popular tourist destination to take in all that the Barcelona city skyline has to offer. This hill was the site of many of the 1992 events during the Olympic games, and is the location of many historic fortresses built over the centuries. When viewing Barcelona pictures, it's interesting to remember that in recent years, many of the 1992 events of the Olympics were held here.

When looking at Montjuic in a Barcelona skyline picture, one can see Montjuic Castle.
