This panoramic photograph of Paris, France was taken by James Blakeway. Centered in the photograph is the Eiffel Tower which was constructed for the 1889 World Fair. Directly behind the Eiffel Tower is the Trocadero Palace with its curved wings. To the right in the distance is the Arc de Triomphe which was commissioned in 1806 by Napoleon and is the worlds largest triumphal arch. Arc de Triomphe is located on avenue des Champs-Elysees, a ten-lane wonderflanked by cafes and luxury shops. In the foreground is the brightly lit and domed Hotel des Invalides, constructed in 1670 to recieve old or wounded officers and soldiers.

In the distance is the world-renowned Eiffel Tower which was originally constructed for the 1889 World's Fair. The river seen in the photograph is the Seine, which runs through the heart of Paris and offers beautiful and relaxing views from one of the many available river boats. Slightly left of the Eiffel Tower is the Hotel des Invalides with its gold-domed roof. Looking straight down the river Seine in the distance you can see the Arc de Triomphe.

This icon of Paris was commissioned by Napoleon and continues to hold the world record for being the largest triumphal arch. The area surrounding the Arc de Triomphe is a popular destination for many tourists, and is one of the most highly photographed areas of Paris due to its many luxury boutiques and 5-star cafes.
