The eighth largest city in the U.S. and second largest in California, San Diego skyline pictures show one of California's most beautiful cities located on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. Considered the birthplace of California, the area shown in today's San Diego skyline photos was first claimed by Spanish explorer Juan Cabrillo in 1542. The first missions in California, and first settlements within the region, were within what is today's San Diego.
The growth of the San Diego skyline picture is largely due to its convenient location for shipping on the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The downtown area shown in many San Diego panoramic pictures is located on the shores of this bay, which makes a beautiful foreground and setting for many pictures of the city.
With an expansive city skyline, San Diego has a number of recognizable buildings that can be spotted when viewing photos of San Diego. Some of the tallest buildings in the city with steep, peaked roofs include the Manchester Grand Hyatt Seaport and the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. The building with the most unique appearance among the San Diego skyline is likely the San Diego Convention Center, whose roof is reminiscent of the sails on ships.
As a major shipping port, home to many U.S. Naval facilities, and seated in one of the most beautiful locales of the American Southwest and Pacific Coast, it is easy to see from San Diego skyline pictures why so many love to visit the city or call this place home.
