The bridge in the foreground is the Galata Bridge which crosses the body of water referred as the Golden Horn. Istanbul is a city on two continents, Asia in the distant left of the photograph and Europe in the center and right of the photograph.

The most well-known religious site in the city is the Hagia Sophia, an Eastern Orthodox cathedral from 360 AD-1453, when it was converted to a Roman Catholic cathedral. The building was again a mosque from 1453 -1931, then reopened as a museum in 1935.
