The open area to the right of St. Basil's is Red Square which includes the Lenin Mausoleum, partially obscured by St. Basil's Cathedral. The clock tower is Savior Tower. It serves as one of the entrances to the Kremlin. You can see the walls of the Kremlin extending left from this tower. Within the Kremlin is the Cathedral of the Assumption with its gold-domed roofs. The river at the far left is the Moscow River.

As the capital city and most populated area of Russia, Moscow skyline pictures show the most populated city in Europe, 6th largest city in the world and home to the largest number of billionaires in the world. Perhaps the most famous location of many Moscow photos is the Red Square, which is a city square separating many of the most recognizable buildings. The most iconic building to be picked out in Moscow skyline pictures is St. Basil's Cathedral, built during the mid-1500s on command of Ivan the Terrible. St. Basil's construction is a unique part of Moscow photos as it has an asymmetrical, staggered design with multicolored geometrical designs on its facade.

Lenin's Mausoleum is another landmark commonly seen in Moscow skyline pictures, and is also located in Red Square. This building serves as the resting place of Vladimir Lenin's embalmed remains, which have interestingly been on public display for the majority of the time since 1924. Spasskaya Tower, or "Savior Tower", is another landmark located in the Red Square popularly seen in Moscow pictures. It is a through-passage to the Kremlin, a historic fortified structure overlooking the Moskva River whose walls run along Red Square. Seen within the Kremlin in Moscow skyline pictures is the Cathedral of the Assumption, easily identified in Moscow photos by its white facade and gold-domed roofs.
