Centered downtown near the water is the Ferry Building with its picturesque clock. Since the days of the Gold Rush, San Francisco has been a leading financial center, but its most important industry is tourism.

The bridge was opened to vehicular traffic on May 28, 1937, with over 2 billion vehicles crossing to date. In the background is downtown San Francisco with the San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge. Centered in the downtown area is the world famous Transamerica Pyramid Center. Further left is the former federal prison located on Alcatraz Island, commonly referred to as “The Rock.”
