Located in western England, Bath was originally founded by the Romans in 60 AD, but not granted city status until 1590 by Queen Elizabeth I. Located on the river Avon, Bath has been the center of authority for the areas of Bath and North East Somerset. The historical importance is evident in our city skyline pictures of Bath, especially when noting the area was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many significant historical events occurred in Bath over the millennia, including the crowning of King Edgar in Bath Abbey in 973.
The Romans first established the city as a spa named Aquae Sulis, building many spas and temples fed by the area's hot springs. Thanks to these natural geological features, the city continued its esteem as a spa center over the last few centuries. The English had a renewed interest in Bath during the 1700s, evident by the large number of Georgian buildings seen in the city skyline.
Bath is home to many other remarkable structures. The Royal Crescent is a famous crescent-shaped street of 30 terraced houses; Bath Abbey, founded in the 7th century, is another frequent travel destination. While modern architecture can be seen among the ancient buildings, the historical importance of this city is obvious. Pictures of Bath, England capture one of England's most interesting and storied cities.
