Taj Mahal, India Panoramic Picture

SKU: TAJ1
This panoramic photograph of the Taj Mahal was taken by Christopher Gjevre. Completed in 1648, this marble structure stands in Agra, India and was ordered built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to serve as a mausoleum for his favorite wife Mamtaz Mahal who died in childbirth 17 years prior. Considered by many to be the finest example of late Indian Muslim architecture, the Taj Mahal was designed by a Turkish architect and was built by 20,000 paid laborers. Its exterior is decorated with semiprecious stones, floral designs, and arabesques and its dome stands over 180 feet high. This view is of the south face, the main entrance to the tomb.

India - Taj Mahal Panoramic Pictures

Panoramic images of the Taj Mahal show one of the jewels of Asia, and what is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture in the world. Built in the mid-1600s, the building complex seen in Taj Mahal panoramas was constructed as a mausoleum to the late wife of emperor Shah Jahan, Mamtaz Mahal. The setting in Taj Mahal panoramas has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is surrounded by meticulously maintained gardens.

Inspired by Persian gardens and symmetry, the site in Taj Mahal panoramic pictures captures remarkable examples of symmetry in both organic and man-made forms. Many pictures of the site typically capture the south face of the mausoleum, which is the entrance to Mamtaz Mahal's tomb.
