Portland Skyline Panoramic Picture, Oregon

SKU: PORT2
This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, spotlights the beautiful downtown Portland, Oregon, skyline at twilight. Located left of center is the Oregon Convention Center, best known for the twin spire towers which provide light into the building's interior and for housing the world's largest Foucault Pendulum. The large flat-roofed building, right of center in the mid-distance, is the Rose Garden, a $267 million multi-purpose arena and home of the NBA Portland Trail Blazers. Located near the confluence of the Willamette (shown meandering through the center of the picture) and Columbia rivers, Portland's economy has historically been tied to these rivers and their access to the Pacific Ocean.

Portland, OR Skyline Pictures

In 1845, the settlement that would grow into the city skyline of Portland we know and love today was founded at the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers. Over 2.3 million people have come to call "Rose Town" home, and the city has received many awards for the superior use of urban planning and light rail construction seen in Portland skyline pictures. Portland's nickname is because of its weather, perfect for growing roses, which are abundant throughout the city's many gardens and conservatories.

One of the most iconic elements contributing to Portland skyline photos is the Oregon Convention Center, located on the east side of the Willamette River. Its twin domed spires are brilliantly lit at night, resembling beacons among the Portland city skyline. These glass spires reveal the interior of the Oregon Convention Center and a glimpse into the city's many trade shows, conferences and events; it is also home to the world's largest Foucault Pendulum.

Aptly named after the city's common feature, the Rose Garden is an indoor arena home to the Portland Trail Brazers basketball team and Portland Winterhawks hockey team. The Rose Garden Arena is easily recognizable in Portland skyline panoramas because of its unique shape. Built with concrete framing and skeletal steel, the arena holds over 14,000 spectators during basketball, ice hockey, arena football, lacrosse games and other events.

Overlooked by spectacular mountain views such as Mount Hood, Portland skyline pictures showcase a beautiful city known for its excellent entertainment destinations as well as its lively residents. With its unofficial slogan of "Keep Portland Weird," there are a number of attractions in this free-spirited city to entertain travelers from the world over.
