Near the lake, on the left bank of the Limmat River, with its twin towers, is the Grossmunster Cathedral, which was completed in the 14th century. To the right of Grossmunster, across the river with its green steeple is Fraumunster, and to its right, with the largest clock in Europe, is St. Peter's, Zurich's oldest church. Zurich, Switzerland Skyline Pictures

As the largest city in Switzerland, Zurich skyline pictures show a metropolis home to 1.8 million residents on the northwestern tip of Lake Zurich. While settlements have been found in the area as far back as 6,400 BC, the city we know today was formally founded by the Romans in 15 BC.

One of the most picturesque cities on earth, Zurich skyline photos displays a city surrounded by beautiful natural features, including the Limmat River flowing from Lake Zurich at the lower end of the city to the stunning Alps. One of the older landmarks in Zurich on the bank of the Limmat River is the Grossm√ľnster Cathedral, constructued between the 1100s - 1300s. Situated across the Limmat River is the famous Fraum√ľnster Abbey featured in so many Zurich skyline pictures, originally founded in 853. The Abbey stands in Zurich to this day, with its iconic green steeple, large clock-faced church tower and many stained glass windows. Nearby is St. Peter's, which has the largest clock face in Europe.

As the biggest city in Switzerland, Zurich photos offer beautiful views of this historic city. The streets and sights of Zurich offer charming views so commonly associated with Switzerland, and easily inspire a future visit from many.
