This panorama, taken by Robert Pettit, spotlights a season kick-off game between the K-State Wildcats and the University of South Dakota Coyotes. To commemorate the induction of Coach Bill Snyder into the College Football Hall of Fame, K-State asked fans to participate in the first-ever “stripe-out” of the stadium named in Coach Snyder’s honor. This season opener was also the first game after the completion of the new Vanier Family Football Complex in the north end of the stadium. The sellout crowd for this historic game illustrates the loyalty of the K-State football fan base, widely touted to be some of the most committed and passionate fans in college football.

Kansas State University was founded in 1863, with many of its athletics programs starting within the first few years of the school's history. The teams of Kansas State University are known as the Kansas State Wildcats, or "K-State" or "KSU". The programs K-State is most well-known for however, are football and basketball. The K-State basketball program, founded in 1902, has captured over a dozen conference championships. Home games are played at Bramlage Coliseum, where over 12,000 fans attend in full purple and white. The K-State football program has been around only slightly longer than basketball, founded in 1896 and playing home games at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

K-State Wildcats panoramas of the football program capture what is to date, the 14th-longest winning streak in U.S. college football history. KSU football has produced many All-Americans and multiple conference titles. As of the 2010s, Kansas State has placed a new dedication towards growing its athletics programs, and as of 2012, K-State became the most profitable athletics department in the nation.
