Centered in the photo is the newly-renovated Husky Stadium, which originally opened in 1920. It is the most scenic football structure in the nation, with seating capacity for 70,138 fans. Overlooking Union Bay on scenic Lake Washington to the east and the Olympic Mountains to the west, the stadium is unique in that fans can attend games by boat. The Portage Bay waterway and the nationally ranked University Medical Center are left of the stadium. Hec Edmundson Pavilion, the main campus, and the UW Tower are to the right.

This panorama of the newly renovated Husky Stadium, taken by Christopher Gjevre, spotlights the season-opening matchup between the University of Washington Huskies and the Boise State Broncos. Fans attending this sold-out game and the Return to Montlake, cheered the Huskies to a 38-6 victory over the Broncos while enjoying many of the $250 million stadium updates. The much anticipated renovations include premium and patio suites, permanent seating, reconstruction of the lower bowl and south side stands, optimized sightlines, a new parking garage and a huge purple and gold “W” facing the water on the east side. Husky Stadium continues its 92 year tradition as the greatest setting in college football.

This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, features the Washington Huskies basketball team playing their in-state rival at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Originally completed in 1927, the Pavilion is a monument to durability with a distinct style including brick arches and signature Husky gargoyles. It was renamed Clarence S. “Hec” Edmundson Pavilion in 1948, in honor of Washington’s longtime basketball and track coach. From 1999 to 2000, it underwent major renovations and was transformed into a first-class multi-purpose facility. Founded in 1861, the University is one of the oldest on the West Coast and strives to be a leader in environmental responsibility.
