By far, the most famous landmark to be seen in any Pisa skyline picture is the world-known "Leaning Tower of Pisa." While the field surrounding the tower is a popular destination for tourists seeking Pisa photos, the city has a number of other famous structures to be seen in Pisa panoramic pictures.
The famous Leaning Tower of Pisa seen in Pisa skyline photos is actually the bell tower of the city's cathedral, aptly named Pisa Cathedral, which is another prominent feature in Pisa skyline pictures. This cathedral is an excellent example of Romanesque architecture, which began construction in 1063 and concluded with the Leaning Tower in 1174. While the bell tower is the location of many often-humorous moments captured in Pisa photos, what is interesting about its construction is that the tower began to take on its famous lean almost immediately after completion. The area surrounding the Pisa Cathedral and bell tower so often photographed in Pisa skyline panoramas is known as the Campo dei Miracoli, also home to the great religious structures of the Baptistry and the Camposanto.
Another famous feature seen in Pisa pictures is its University, which was originally founded in 1343 and has over 30,000 students attending today. The most famous historical fact of the University is perhaps that the world-known scholar, Galileo, was one of its students.
As a city with thousands of years of history, it's understandable why Pisa skyline pictures hold so much fascination today. While the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa is easily the most famous icon of the city, many other wonders can be found within Pisa skyline photos for all those interested in Roman and Italian history and architecture.
