Originally settled by English colonists in the early 1600s, the city was the site of many famous American Revolution events. These include Patrick Henry's "give me liberty or give me death" speech and the actions of Thomas Jefferson. In addition, during the Civil War, the city became the capital of the Confederate States of America.

The Monroe Building is a white and black modern tower that is easy to pick out in the Richmond skyline. Others include the Federal Reserve Bank, Riverfront Plaza and Richmond Plaza. In addition, the Davis Mansion can be seen in the downtown area of Richmond skyline pictures.

Many modern buildings in Richmond skyline pictures are thanks to the economical influence of the city's strength in law, finance, government, and banking. With a significant arts community, Richmond is a common tourist destination not merely for experiencing locales of American history, but also for museums, monuments, the professional performing arts and theatre venues. Richmond is a culturally rich city with a number of exciting destinations to offer, whether your interest is discovering points of interest in colonial America, Civil War era, or just experiencing one of America's oldest and most diverse cities.
