Centered in the photograph is Nationsbank Center. The first coal-mining and iron-making operations in America are located in Richmond, which is known as the "Tobacco Capital of the World." Richmond was the Confederate capital and the White House of the Confederacy is in the heart of Downtown.

As the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the independent city of Richmond houses a mixture of pre-Revolutionary War architecture spanning to modern day industrial skyscrapers.
