Minnesota Wild - Xcel Energy Center Pictures - NHL Panorama
This panorama, taken by James Blakeway, captures the action of the Minnesota Wild playing on their home ice. On June 25, 1997, the NHL® announced that Minnesota had been awarded an expansion franchise to begin play in the 2000-01 season. The club name, the result of a fan write-in campaign, reflects Minnesota’s natural beauty and wildlife. The Wild crest is a pictogram that depicts both the Minnesota Wilderness and the silhouette of a wild animal. Among the components hidden in the logo are the North Star, evergreen trees, a red sky, the sun and/or moon and a stream. The organization retired sweater number 1, as a tribute to Wild Fans on October 11, 2000.

This panorama, taken by Christopher Gjevre, captures the jubilation of Minnesota Wild® fans as they witness the game-winning overtime goal in Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinals at Xcel Energy Center. The sensational ending in front of a white-towel-waving crowd of 19,238 fans was the Wild’s first postseason victory since April 2008. In 1997, the National Hockey League® announced that a franchise would return to the Twin Cities and the Wild began play in 2000, becoming the first NHL® franchise in Minnesota since the 1993 season. In the 2002-03 NHL season, the team made its first playoff appearance and made a remarkable run to the Western Conference Finals.
